Grand Challenge: Precision Health

In 2016, Indiana University launched its first Grand Challenge, “Precision Health Initiative”(PHI). The goal of the PHI is to get the, “right treatment to the right patient at the right time.” Precision medicine is focused on the individual in the context of his or her unique circumstances. Family health history, social environment, and location are critically important parts of the puzzle precision medicine attempts to assemble.

The Indiana University Practice and Education Center (IU IPE) is taking part in this Grand Challenge by spearheading the development of an integrated curriculum resource and precision health family tree for health professions learners. This work builds on Indiana University’s contributions to advancing precision health in multiple Myeloma/Triple Negative Breast Cancer, Pediatric Sarcomas, Type 2 Diabetes, and Alzheimer’s Disease by extending the precision health team’s reach in prevention, treatment, and improved health outcomes.
