Indianapolis Student Outreach Clinic
The IU Student Outreach Clinic (SOC) is a free, student-run clinic providing primary care-based medical, dental, social, and legal services for the uninsured and underserved in the Indianapolis community. The SOC is one of the largest comprehensive student-run, free medical clinics in the United States. The overall goal of the clinic is to provide an array of medical services in order to close the healthcare gap in the local community. The clinic meets the widespread calls for team-based, patient-centered care, where learners perform comprehensive medical exams, coordinate medications, provide patient education, identify in-home exercises, and initiate conversations for those needing community resources.
The presence of IU IPE fosters collaboration among learners and provide first-hand evidence of interprofessional behaviors influencing patient satisfaction and health outcomes at the SOC. The experiential learning environment requires learners to use the knowledge of their own role and those of other professions to appropriately assess and address the healthcare needs of the patients and populations.
IU IPE is proud to work with students, faculty, patients, and community leaders at the Indianapolis SOC to provide these services for the uninsured and underserved in the greater Indianapolis area.
