The Department of Medicine’s inaugural Celebration of Science Day was a great success, bringing together early-stage investigators with experienced faculty for an unmatched educational experience.

Lectures and presentations throughout the day were intended to educate trainees and increase their exposure to research while fostering networking opportunities between attendees. Several residents and post-doc candidates were invited to give presentations of their research work.

A highlight of the day was a grand rounds presentation Naftali Kaminski, MD, the Boehringer-Ingelheim Endowed Professor of Internal Medicine and Chief of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, at Yale School of Medicine. Kaminski’s research focuses “on the application of genomic approaches to improve diagnosis and treatment of Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis — a chronic and untreatable scarring lung disease — as well as other chronic lung diseases,” according to the Yale University website.

Celebration of Science Day was facilitated by the Department of Medicine’s Vice Chair for Research Kara Wools-Kaloustian, MD. These events will now take place annually, each including a nationally recognized researcher to speak about lessons they learned throughout their career journey and to present their research.
