The overall goals of the IU IPE Center’s faculty development programming are to offer professional development activities that are designed to prepare and assist faculty in all relevant learning environments (classroom, clinic, community etc.) to teach interprofessional education and collaborative practice in an effective, patient-centered manner and promote organizational changes and leadership which support interprofessional education and collaborative practice.
Much of the programming created by the IU Interprofessional Practice and Education Center (IU IPE) requires trained facilitators to foster conversation, provide guidance, and evaluate progress. These facilitators must be well versed in interprofessional practice and education techniques which they may not be familiar with in traditional classroom learning. To overcome this communication barrier, IU IPE offers developmental sessions in interprofessional collaboration skills and trains faculty in our TEACH! curriculum to instruct facilitators about their roles within the curriculum.
