Through the Early Decision Program, students have an opportunity to secure acceptance to Indiana University School of Medicine by October 1. Through early decision, IU School of Medicine seeks to enroll a cadre of talented future physicians across the statewide system of nine campuses. Applicants who demonstrate excellent academic performance, emulate humanitarianism, possess strong interpersonal skills, have an interest in completing scholarly projects and intend to become superb physicians are especially encouraged to apply.

The AMCAS Early Decision application deadline is August 1; however, IU School of Medicine strongly recommends application submission early in June so applications are complete by July 1.

Campus availability is determined by:

Applicants with a minimum GPA of 3.7 (science and overall) and a total MCAT score of 510, with no subsection below 125.

Applicants with a minimum GPA of 3.8 GPA (science and overall) and a total MCAT score of 512 or higher, with no subsection below 127.

Campus placement is based on a four year attendance commitment at the selected campus. Applicants will be screened for medical school eligibility and then invited to complete a supplemental application for consideration of a preferred campus location. Campus placements are based on applicant preference rankings, number of requests received, and campus capacity; therefore, placement at a specific location is not guaranteed.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply to the Scholarly Concentration available at the campus selected.

During Phase 2 of the curriculum (required clinical clerkships in year three), all early decision students will be guaranteed assignment of one clinical clerkship of their choice at another IU School of Medicine campus. While specialty, location and specific rotation dates are not all guaranteed, every attempt will be made to fulfill all requests. During their fourth year, students will take Phase 3 required rotations at their home campus (sub-internship, emergency medicine, critical care selective, and radiology), while they are free to take elective rotations anywhere in the nine-campus system.

Early Decision Program notifications occur by October 1. Applicants not accepted during the Early Decision Program process are placed in the regular applicant pool and may apply to other medical schools after October 1.

Scholarly Concentrations Program
A Scholarly Concentration is an optional experience that complements the core medical school curriculum and offers medical students a novel educational experience. These communities of learners share interest in the Scholarly Concentration focus, such as urban medicine and health care disparities, and will learn and complete scholarly projects together. Applicants are encouraged to explore Scholarly Concentration topics as they select a preferred campus.
