Indiana University Interprofessional Practice and Education Center awarded the 2019 Institutional Excellence and Innovation in Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Health Care

Indiana Universities Interprofessional Practice and Education Center (IU IPE) announced today that it has received the 2019 Award for Institutional Excellence and Innovation in Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Health Care. This honor is presented by the Association of Schools of Allied Health Professionals (ASAHP), the leading organization representing health professions schools.

“Being recognized by the ASAHP is a testament to the grit and power of Indiana University’s health sciences, social work, and public health schools.” said Andrea Pfeifle, director IU IPE, “We are extremely proud to join those who have gone before us to receive the Institutional Excellence and Innovation in Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Health Care Award.”

IU IPE will be honored at the 2019 ASAHP conference October 16-18, 2019, at Charleston Marriott, Charleston, SC

Statewide, IU IPE’s TEACH! program impacted over 7,000 student learners in the 2018-19 academic year. The goal of the TEACH! curriculum is for students to learn core interprofessional practice capabilities that will enable them to work as part of a patient-centered collaborative health team.

Formed through a collaboration with IU President Michael McRobbie and Deans from the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, Public Health, Optometry, and Social work, IU IPE works to educate upcoming medical professionals in collaborative healthcare practices.

ASAHP serves as a collaborative resource and advocate for interprofessional education to students, faculty, professional accrediting bodies, and practitioners through instruction, research, and service.
