The Cycle of Addiction Experience is a pilot program for IU IPE's "Essential Topics in Collaboration" meant to provide participants with interprofessional and interagency opportunities to understand how substance use disorder (SUD) impacts families, friends, and communities. We use case scenarios to reveal the story of individuals living with or touched by substance use disorder. Participants learn about resources for future interactions with patients/clients and interact with community partners during breakout sessions who guide learners through the experience. Educational materials and resources are provided by the various participating agencies.
Community partners provide guidance to participants throughout the Cycle of Addiction Experienceas during a collaborative process of discovery. These partners deliver information about their agency/organizations’ roles and responsibilities related to the individual case scenarios. This partner-participant interaction allows for identification of how to utilize resources and systems available in different communities.
