Three from IU IPE - May 2022

Jun 14, 2022
Every month at IU IPE is an adventure, even when Summer Vacation is around the corner. With that in mind, let’s take a look back at three of IU IPE’s top stories from the month of May.

1. Interagency Interprofessional Education Initiative (IIEI)

On May 26th, over 50 students from Indiana University Nursing, Cadets, Social Work, and Counseling programs attended the second annual IIEI. This single-day event allowed students to participate with each other in workshops about the stigma of addiction, transfer of care, Naloxone, and human trafficking in Indiana.

This event was a joint effort made possible through a partnership with IU IPE and the IU Center for Rural Engagement. IU CRE featured the IIEI in an article titled “Serving beyond silos: Professional certificate program prepares IU students to address complex social issues

2. Dr. April D. Newton earns another doctorate

Dr. Newton earned an extra “Dr.” to her name earlier this month when she successfully defended her dissertation “Interprofessional Team Simulation Further Enhances Collaboration Compared to Uniprofessional Team Simulation: A Mixed Methods Study” and was granted a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the Interprofessional Healthcare Studies department at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science.

3. IU IPE says “Goodbye” to Dr. Laura Romito

Dr. Romito, the longest-tenured member of the IU IPE team, has accepted a step up in her home school. She has accepted the position of Associate Dean for Education & Academic Affairs at the Indiana University School of Dentistry. We wish Dr. Romito the best of luck and look forward to working alongside her on future interprofessional endeavors.
